First of all, decide on a design - this could include your logo, the
colours of your railroad and maybe a picture of a locomotive or even
a photo. Have a look at other E-Passes to see what others have done
(you can find some on my Received Passes
page).
Once this has been decided use an Image Editiing package such as PhotoShop,
PhotoPaint or any other package which can save images as either JPEG
or GIF formats. Your Pass should be around 550 pixels wide by 350
pixels high, and a resolution of 72 dpi. This is to keep the file
size down as you will be e-mailing this to people who may not have
fast modems or large mailboxes. Try to keep the file size under 80kb.
Now create the E-Pass, making sure you have the following information:
The name of your Railroad
Your Railroad's logo
The words 'Electronic Rail Pass' or 'Rail E-Pass'
The words 'Issued To', 'Pass No.' and 'Date Issued'
Your website address and e-mail address
Your name ('Issued By')
The scale of your Model Railroad
Once you have included all this, save the file and keep it as a template.
When people request a Pass from you just load this original file,
add their details (name, pass no. and date of issue) and save the
image under a new name as a JPEG or GIF image. Be careful not to save
over your original image.
Now you are ready to promote your new Electronic Rail Pass on your
web site and on mailing lists.
Oh yes, and put my name on your list - I'd love to exchange Passes
with you.
